(14 abr. 1879, Richmond, Va., EE.UU.–5 may. 1958, Richmond).

Escritor estadounidense. En su novela más conocida, Jurgen (1919), historia llena de simbolismo sexual, Cabell ataca las instituciones y ortodoxias norteamericanas. Entre sus otras obras, en su mayoría alegorías ambientadas en una provincia medieval imaginaria, destacan The Cream of the Jest [La gracia de la broma] (1917) y The High Place [El lugar alto] (1923). Su manierismo y su visión escéptica de la experiencia humana le hicieron perder gran parte de la popularidad que ostentó en la década de 1920.
